I have huge respect and appreciation for all the hard-working people running our farm associations across America. One of the great groups is the folks over at the National Corn Growers Association. Each year they compile a massive amount of important corn statistics into an interactive online presentation called the World of Corn. If you’ve never checked it out, definitely take a minute to explore the website. There’s a ton of information all presented in a visual format covering both domestic and global corn production and usage.
This year’s edition of World of Corn starts off highlighting the resiliency of America’s corn farmers. NCGA President John Linder and Chief Executive Officer Jon Doggett note in the introduction, “A record 30 named hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast and Eastern Seaboard. Aggressive wildfires ravaged parts of the western United States. A derecho devastated cropland from Iowa to New Jersey. A global pandemic impacted Americans in rural and urban areas alike. Despite what felt like taking bodywork from a heavyweight, America’s corn farmers ducked, faded, bobbed and weaved to success.” In the end, the “underdogs” proved to be true champions, producing 14.2 billion bushels of corn.
Founded in 1957, the National Corn Growers Association represents nearly 40,000 dues-paying corn farmers nationwide and the interests of more than 300,000 growers who contribute through corn checkoff programs in their states. The World of Corn publication is a respected collection of the most important statistics about corn production, exports, and consumption, providing key information in a readable format, comparing numbers and trends across the years.
