Below is just something that got me thinking. Iowa State University recently updated their cost of production estimates. You can see all of the results HERE. Herbicide tolerant soybeans planted following a rotation of corn are thought to carry an average production cost of between $9.39 and $9.55 per bushel or somewhere between $429 and $516 per acre depending on several variable expenses and total average yield. With the recent rally and today’s prices on the board most producers are profitable. I included a table below that provides some quick reference and scenarios regarding total revenue based on various market prices. In other words what’s the difference in “total revenue per acre” based on the price per bushel. for argument sake I used a yield average of 50 bushels per acre based on 1,000 acres of production.

$8 price = $400 per acre = total revenue per 1,000 acres = $400,000

$9 price =  $450 per acre = total revenue per 1,000 acres = $450,000

$10 price = $500 per acre = total revenue per 1,000 acres = $500,000

$11 price = $550 per acre = total revenue per 1,000 acres = $550,000

$12 price = $600 per acre = total revenue per 1,000 acres = $600,000

$13 price = $650 per acre = total revenue per 1,000 acres =$650,000
